Learn French Online
The French language has had it’s influence on English and so there are some words in English that have French roots. The pronunciation can be tricky though. Spoken French and written French can seem like two completely different creatures. Spoken in Quebec in Canada and France as well as many former French colonies According to a 1999 study French is the 11th most widely spoken language in the world. (Although if you take into account second-language speakers it may be as widely spoken as 5th in the world.)
Most DVD’s distributed in the United States and Canada will offer a secondary French language track which can aid in your listening learning skills.
The pattern and rhythm of spoken French is one of the reasons many refer to it as the language of love, it seems to be a very pleasant speech to listen to. I know a little French after studying a bit for a trip to Montreal. In fact that is the first place I recall actually using a learned spoken foreign (second) language. I bought a book - seems as though a Sherlock Holmes translated into French as well as a Montreal visitors guide. I remember being a bit scared at the attempt at conversing in a foreign tongue, but all in all it was somewhat a successful transaction.
