I may have touched on this once before, but wanted to make sure to highlight a few of these great references over at dxzone.com. First up is Known frequencies from .1 to 21200 Mhz. They make notes of what kind of modulation is typically used in the ranges (AM/SSB/FM/etc.) (Text only document [...]

If you’ve been slow on memorizing which frequencies are in which meter bands…. there’s an easy to use formula for it http://www.zyra.org.uk/freqwav.htm has the reference, although I’m SURE it’s other places too…. basically the speed of light (in meters per second) divided by the frequency gives you the wavelength and if you can’t recall 299792458 [...]

This is an older model scanner that was sold at Radio Shack and likely other outlets probably in the late 80’s into the 90’s. It has Wx, scan and manual buttons, 10 channel memory and a key pad with Lockout capablities (and keypad off/on switch.) It can run on 12V DC (tip positive). [...]

I haven’t got an Amateur Radio (Ham) license (yet) but every so often I get the interest to. It started when I got into shortwave radio and then my interest was rekindled a bit when I discovered the UHF/VHF local bands. There is the The American Radio Relay League as a great online [...]

I haven’t heard the EMS in our area use these kinds of codes, but some places do have a system for describing patients conditions via various codes (one adam one). There are a couple good posts in the radioreference.com forums explaining this long list of codes.

For those of you scanner listeners… the ten-code list may be just enough to make you start to sort out what you’re hearing (although different localities may use slightly altered variations.) The same goes for “signals” I know some of these DON’T match what I hear locally, but then some do… so Here’s a [...]

There was a local site that had these, but I can’t seem to pull it up right now, hopefully www.wncps.org is just temporarily offline, but hopefully they won’t mind me listing a ten code reference here from their site.
The ten codes may vary by locality. However, these seem to be very close [...]

I’ve added a couple of useful links to the sidebar…
http://beelinetv.com/ has links to online streams of tv broadcasts from around the world.
http://www.shortwave.be/ - I’ve had this one up for some time I think. What’s really nice here is that they maintain current links for the broadcasters organized by country (if it’s government run.) [...]

If you’ve ever been a bit overwhelmed looking at scanner specs with analog/digital trunking I, II, and III (and IV) etc… you might find it worthwhile to visit radio-scanner-guide.com . In addition to covering the basics of the terminology and giving an idea of what the different specs are. (And what kind of [...]
