IPTV in the USA

What is IPTV? Basically it’s TV delivered over the internet protocol. In some sense, that’s loosely available now if you look in the right places. If you search here and there (I have a few sites listed here) you can find a few streams of tv streamed live over the internet. In Europe it looks like Iptv has had pretty good uptake. But… there are some options becoming available in the United States. At&t’s U-verse is one such iptv provider (markets may be limited.) But do you have to buy from a big provider? What about a-la-carte buying a few channels at a time?

Outside of the other online alternatives (finding on-demand viewings of shows from popular channels), there is iptv service in the US from skyangel. SkyAngel started out as a satellite provider. Their service packages for IPtv start relatively low ($14.99/month) Of course, you do need a broadband internet connection.

I can see IPTV quickly becomming an option where you buy basic internet access from either your phone or traditional cable provider and you get the basic options they give, then add on your favorite channels from “pick your iptv provider”. Truly this should be a good thing for consumer choice.

Hopefully we’ll soon start seeing other options here in the US.
