Monitoring Times Online Resources
The Monitoring Times has for a long time been a good solid no-nonsense magazine for those into monitoring the various radio bands out there. Several of their columnists now have online blogs which I can only imagine will help to grow interest in their magazine. Today I’ll highlight a few of those. Shortwave Central by Gayle Van Horn offers the latest on shortwave broadcast, pirate, and clandestine radio. You’ll find QSL tips, breaking news and monitoring loggings here. Meanwhile…
Larry Van Horn has the Btown Monitoring Post set up for his non military monitoring logging. He labels himself an “all spectrum monitor” so, you might find pretty much anything there. Some recent posts cover everything from “Antarctic Activity week” through a HAARP moon bounce experiment.
Larry Van Horn also keeps up with the milcom monitoring as well at the Milcom Monitoring Post. For several of these sites I should note that the comments are closed, but they do accept tips/comments via email addresses which are listed in the site title pages.
If you’re more interested in Utility monitoring, Hugh Stegman keeps the MT Utility World Blog. If you didn’t know “Utilities are all VLF/LF/MF/HF radio communications except broadcasting, CB, and non-emergency amateur.” He says if you understand that last sentence you know enough to read his blog….
Chris Parris keeps the MT Fed Files monitoring undocumented federal government frequencies. Recent posts include frequencies related to the South Carolina Presidential campaign, and monitoring frequencies for the upcoming Super Bowl.
Rachel Baughn keeps The Editor’s Desk for the Monitoring Times and Doug Smith keeps American Bandscan which is “A site for unusual long-distance reception of regular domestic AM & FM radio and television stations.”
Some of the recent posts at American Bandscan have to do with AM frequency changes. (An AM station in Saluda, SC moving from 1190kHz to 1200kHz. (WJES) and a new frequency in Texas (Big Spring, Texas 730kHz)).
Happy reading and clear listening!
