Kenwood TH-F6A transceiver
A while back I looked at Scanners… that got the bug in my head again for looking at amateur radio equipment. The pick of the handhelds that I have looked it is probably the Kenwood TH-F6A, it transmits in the 144, 200 and 440 amatuer bands (with 5 watts output) has a dual receiver (one with wideband receive excluding cellular.) The only knock I’ve seen against the kenwood is the availability of accessories.
It looks like everyone raves about the sensitivity, the 5W output, battery life is pretty good and the sound is impressive. Of course, you do need an amateur license to talk with it, but it looks to be the pick of the handhelds out right now. $319.95 at Universal radio….
