KI4TQN upgrade to Amateur Extra
Well… I have a hard time setting something down halfway done… so last Sunday, I passed Element’s 1 2 and 3 of the Amateur Radio testing to get my General license. (I scored a perfect score on those elements). I missed Extra by about 8 or so questions last week. (Hadn’t studied for that element.) So, this week I spent some time familiarizing myself with Phase in AC circuits, Q, resonance and all sorts of AC electronic “Stuff” and took the test this morning. Missed 2, but I upgraded to Extra. My original license copy hasn’t even arrived from the FCC, but….
Anyway, so now I’m a licensed amateur at the highest operating class and am looking at either kit built equipment or scratch made equipment to keep costs down.
I’ve got to admit I’m even thinking about the possibility of studying for and taking the GROL commercial license test, but I do want to let some of the AC study to “settle” and get some practical hands on understanding before pushing for anything seriously in that area.
As always my web sites follow my interests and sometimes are placeholders for me of interesting or favorite places online, so I may be posting some items of interest to kit built and scratch built Amateur Radio equipment and supplies as well. (Just so you know what to expect to be seeing.)
I’d like to thank sites like qrz.com and eham.net for the availability of a good online practice test feature. With qrz.com you could go through the entire question pool as well as draw random tests. I didn’t go through with the attempt to memorize the answers, but to find out what I didn’t know, then do a google search/wikipedia/etc…. to fill in the gaps in my knowledge.
Now that I’ve got the ticket………..it’s time to start thinking about what I’ll try to do with it.
