There’s also an online stream of the Charlotte Mecklenberg County (North Carolina) available online. It’s a trunked system and the link to the stream is on this page. It’s an mp3 stream and they’re using an bc-825 trunk tracker to track it.

There are sites that give live scanner feeds online. Among those is http://www.police-scanner.info/live-police-scanners.htm. (That link takes you directly to the live streams.) Anyway, there are a number of North Carolina departments listed there and it’s likely worth it if you’re interested to check it out for your state as well.

I’m now listed in the FCC ULS database and have been assigned a call sign as a General Class Amateur Radio Operator - KI4TQN - so now I’m legal to transmit in any of the FCC’s recognized amateur bands (with the restriction of the several Amateur Extra reserved segments)…. I haven’t heard the EMS in our area use these kinds of codes, but some places do have a system for describing patients conditions via various codes (one adam one). There are a couple good posts in the radioreference.com forums explaining this long list of codes.
