I’ve accumulated quite a few bash scripts that play streams or get a daily news program (whether or not they’re podcasting). I use linux, but for the most part, these should work on ANY unix’ish system. The one thing they rely on is mplayer, although if you really didn’t want to use mplayer, I guess you could substitute something else. Anyway, I’ll be posting those here from time to time. Anyway, I’ve got about 90 of them at this point. It may be a bit pretentious to even call them scripts. (I mean… “mplayer filename” is more of a command than a script…), Some are a bit more complex than others though.
Basically, I keep these in a folder on the desktop and that way, I’m just a doubleclick away from listening to the BBC worldservice stream, or the latest news from _____ (fill in the blank) broadcaster. Plus… it gives the added bonus that if I wanted to, I could do a “wrapper” around several scripts and go through the entire batch of them.
Anyway, I’m afraid I don’t have anything of the like for Windows users, although I suspect if mlayer is available for Windows, it may be possible to make them into cmd scripts that way. I don’t know and if I ever test it out, I’ll pass that along.
