Iran Blocking BBC persian web page

Wednesday, January 25th, 2006

This is somewhat related to broadcasting in a sense. In fact, I think this is a good point as to why shortwave broadcasts are still useful. I’m reading that Iran is blocking access to the BBC’s worldservice Persian web page. So, if you live in Iran and try and get news from [...]

Air Traffic Control Online

Tuesday, January 17th, 2006

Well, this is a bit of a departure from international shortwave broadcasters… but it’s yet another example of the variety that I expect to be able to post here…. I ran across a site that has live Air Traffic Control Audio feeds. www.liveatc.net The feeds seem to be mp3 streams (icecast)….
So, if [...]

Good online index of shortwave broadcasters

Sunday, January 15th, 2006

I ran across this the other day while I was hunting for different state sponsored shortwave broadcasters. http://www.shortwave.be/ is a good place to find links to websites of almost any shortwave broadcaster. It covers governmental, religious, NGO and non-profit groups.

BBC Worldservice English

Sunday, January 15th, 2006

Like I’ve said, many of these hardly deserve to be called scripts…. but copy these to a text file and mark them executable and they make a nice double-click shortcut to an audio stream. These first two are for the BBC Worldservice in English.
They (along with many that I’ll put here) rely on the [...]

Mplayer stream…

Sunday, January 15th, 2006

This barely deserves to be called a script, but… it’s more of a “wrapper” around mplayer. I got tired of adding the -cache 128 and -playlist options so much, that I decided I’d make a script to do it…. so, I copy this script to /usr/bin/ and everyone on the system can make use [...]

New section

Sunday, January 15th, 2006

I’ve accumulated quite a few bash scripts that play streams or get a daily news program (whether or not they’re podcasting). I use linux, but for the most part, these should work on ANY unix’ish system. The one thing they rely on is mplayer, although if you really didn’t want to use mplayer, [...]

Domain history

Saturday, January 14th, 2006

It’s interesting as I was checking to see if this site had been indexed yet, I came across the history of this domain name… it seems between 2004 and as late as February of 2005 this was one of many domains “for sale for $1000″ Of course, I paid nowhere near that. I [...]

Low Power FM transmitter

Friday, January 13th, 2006

Or…. how do I get the audio from my computer to somewhere else. A long time back, I bought a small, low power FM transmitter from ccrane.com. Originally, the idea was to use my cd player in the car I think without the clunky tape insert adapter. (Which is noisy.) The [...]
